Celebrating International Credit Union Day: People Helping People

Every October, credit unions around the world come together to celebrate International Credit Union Day—a time to reflect on the credit union movement’s proud history, promote its achievements, and show appreciation for the communities and members we serve.

What Is International Credit Union Day?

Observed on the third Thursday of October, International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) honors the spirit of the global credit union movement. Since 1948, this special day has recognized the positive impact credit unions have in their communities through a simple but powerful mission: “People helping people.”

From humble beginnings to serving over 375 million members worldwide today, credit unions have stayed true to their member-first values—providing financial access, empowerment, and support to individuals and families of all walks of life.

Why We Celebrate

At Consumer’s Federal credit Union, ICU Day is more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a celebration of our members, our team, and our shared commitment to doing banking differently. We celebrate:

  • Our members, who trust us to help them save, borrow, and build a better financial future

  • Our roots, in serving local communities with compassion, integrity, and inclusion

  • Our vision, for a world where everyone has access to affordable, fair financial services
