April Is Credit Union Youth Month: Teaching Kids the Value of Saving

At Consumer’s Federal Credit Union, we believe that good financial habits start early. That’s why every April, we celebrate Credit Union Youth Month—a time dedicated to helping young people develop smart money habits and understand the importance of saving for the future.

What Is Credit Union Youth Month?

Credit Union Youth Month is a national celebration led by credit unions across the country. It’s an opportunity to engage kids and teens in fun, age-appropriate financial education activities that inspire them to set goals, save regularly, and dream big.

This month-long event is designed to show young members that it’s never too early to start building a strong financial foundation.

Why It Matters

In today’s fast-moving world, financial literacy is more important than ever. Yet, it’s a topic that often isn’t taught in schools. By introducing financial concepts early—like budgeting, saving, and understanding needs versus wants—we can set kids up for long-term success.

Credit Union Youth Month helps bridge that gap, giving parents and credit unions a chance to team up and raise a generation of financially confident kids.

This Year’s Theme

Each year, Credit Union Youth Month has a fun and motivating theme to capture kids’ attention and spark their interest in money matters.  “Save Away for a Rainy Day”

These themes help bring the message home through colorful visuals, contests, and creative activities.

  • Financial Education Activities – We offer fun coloring pages, and activities to help teach key concepts.

  • Contests and Giveaways – From essay contests to coloring contests, we love giving young savers a chance to win cool prizes.

Start Saving Young, Grow Strong Financially

Credit Union Youth Month isn’t just about opening a savings account—it’s about planting seeds of responsibility and confidence that grow over time. It’s about letting kids know that their money matters, and that saving—even a little—can lead to big things.
