Honoring Wisdom, Experience, and Strength: Celebrating Older Americans Month
Every May, we celebrate Older Americans Month—a time to recognize the countless contributions, achievements, and ongoing impact of older adults in our communities.
At Consumer’s Federal Credit Union, we’re proud to honor the generations who have paved the way, shared their wisdom, and continue to inspire us every day. This month is about showing appreciation, raising awareness, and reaffirming our commitment to serving older Americans with dignity, respect, and support.
What Is Older Americans Month?
Older Americans Month (OAM) was established in 1963 and is observed each May to acknowledge the vital role older adults play in our families, communities, and society. Coordinated by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), the month celebrates aging as something to be embraced—not merely endured.
Each year, OAM has a different theme that highlights the unique experiences of older adults, from lifelong learning and civic engagement to healthy living and intergenerational connection.

Why It Matters
Older adults bring unmatched perspective, resilience, and value to our communities. They are mentors, caregivers, volunteers, and leaders. They’ve built businesses, fought for progress, raised families, and shaped the institutions we rely on today—including many credit unions like ours.
Yet, aging also comes with its own challenges—financial security, healthcare access, digital literacy, and social isolation among them. That’s why Older Americans Month is not just a celebration—it’s also a reminder to create a more inclusive and supportive society for every generation.
How Consumer’s Federal Credit Union Supports Older Members
As a credit union, we’re committed to meeting the needs of older adults not just in May, but year-round. Here are a few ways we support our senior members:
-
Senior-Friendly Banking Services – We offer tools like paper statements, large-print materials, and personalized support for those who prefer face-to-face service.
-
Fraud Prevention Education – Scammers often target seniors, so we share resources to help protect against financial exploitation.
Celebrating Together
Throughout May, we’ll be sharing stories, tips, and opportunities to honor the older adults in our lives. Whether it’s through spotlight features, appreciation events, or community partnerships, we’re committed to shining a light on the strength and spirit of our senior members.
